STREET FURNITURE AND PUBLIC LIGHTING
Juanita Betancur from Medellín and Rick Tegelaar from Arnhem indulged oneself in each other’s cities for the theme local-local. Fashion and street lighting were the common starting point after which they continued solo with the design of products for the public space.
What is the difference between indoor and outdoor lighting, and how can this be made visual? For the occasion of the MTic project Atelier Rick Tegelaar developed a series of streetlights that interact with the elements. The first one being the Wind Streetlight. The liquid inside the lens body of the streetlight is agitated by the wind, and it creates a vivid image of light on the pavement.
GENERATION OF TEXTURES WITH LIGHT AND MATERIALS
After the initial design of a street bench of woven metal, Juanita designed a street lamp working on solar cells, with the clear signature of her designs. She demonstrated the lamp at the Medellín Design Week and triggered the interest of the municipality.
Google hangouts was the principal way of communication. E-mail and Facebook chat were used to for find out each other opinions.
